I got this brand new Thinkpad X41 and the first thing that happened when I turned it on is that it started to convert the FS from FAT32 to NTFS. I tried to restore to factory settings so I could undo that (I'd boot from the arch cd first) but in the process I screwed up and erased XP completely. I have a few choices and I'd really like some opinions. Generally, I don't use windows at all, but this is a laptop and so I'm not sure if I'll need to boot there at all for some more advanced things.
1) Should I wait for my restore CD's to show up and then dual boot
2) Should I install arch in /hda2 for swap and /hda3 for main leaving hda1 for when windows is needed?
3) Screw the whole thing and just load arch by itself. I'd need to rely on Cedega or something to play guild wars but that's the only hang up I see.
Any advice?

Surely you can install Windows on something else than hda1 too. So if you want to feel clean then just don't bother reinstalling windows. The restore cd will probably reformat your hd and install windows over it, so it may not be possible to put windows on a seperate partition without a manual install.

Well, since I have to wait a few days for XP to show up anyway I may as well try to get this system running on Arch as best I can. I'll document as well as I can and contribute a "Arch on Thinkpad X41" to linux-laptops so I can redo this if I really want to. First step is getting wireless working. It's a real pain.. I keep getting a FATAL: Module ipw2200 not found. even though I've installed it with pacman. Should I start a new thread for that?

Yes, or otherwise no one finds it. Tried to manually load the module yet? Use pacman -Ql to see what name it has and where it can be found. Also running depmod -a may help.

I was able to modprobe it as ipw so that's progress but I think there's more to do to get it working. Here is the new thread!

It cost a lot... $2699 to be exact. But it came loaded with a 60GB drive, 8 cell battery, bluetooth, wifi, and ultrabase w/ cdrw. The works except the RAM which is only 512MB. If my company hadn't picked up the tab I'd be in a world of hurt..
