I think since the last update, mpd will refuse to connect. The daemon seems to crash when I try to update the music database throgh ncmpcpp. I used to run it as a daemon, launching it at startup. But I have also tried running it as 'myself' to see if that fixed any problems. I have tried searching for solutions, but nothing has worked. This is the output when I run it as 'myself' $ mpd --no-daemon
listen: bind to '0.0.0.0:6600' failed: Address already in use (continuing anyway, because binding to '[::]:6600' succeeded)
daemon: cannot init supplementary groups of user "flako": Operation not permitted
Floating point exception
Before this, when running it as a daemon I got a "connection refused" error in ncmpcpp everytime I hit 'u'. The log file didn't show anything particular, just adding a bunch of albums. I'vet got quite a lot of music, but I guess it shouldn't be a problem for mpd (and it has worked before).

You cannot run mpd as your own user this way. First you need to make sure to comment out users and groups in mpd.conf, because only root can change to those.
2nd make sure all mpd directories/files are readable by user $MYSELF.
To the other error: thats normal, stricktly bind it to your computers IP (e.g. 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 for access from outside). If it still complains get rid of the ipv6 module.
In any case, this error is quite harmless.
To your connection refused problem:
Make sure the command
ldd `which mpd` | grep wrap
does not return anything.
If it does, you have to put mpd to the list of allowed applications in /etc/hosts.allow

I know I have to change the config file, and I did already. Anyway, while searching for errors I have gone back to running it as the mpd user. But I still get the same error, with "failed to bind" and later the connection refused error.
When I rund the ldd command it returns:
libwrap.so.0 => /usr/lib/libwrap.so.0 (0x00007effc27e8000)
And I had already added mpd to the hosts.allow list, but maybe I did it the wrong way?
My /etc/hosts.allow file looks like this:

Shouldn't mpd-0.16.1-1 be compiled without libwrap? Or am I missing something? I still get the same error when trying to run mpd as a normal user. I tried making a new install of mpd, removing all old config files I had earlier and setting it up to run as the normal user. This is my mpd.conf:

But I still get the same adress already in use error. Weirdly, I seem to have gotten hold of a new error now that I startded with a 'clean' database-file. Something about a corrupted database...

Dont worry much about this error. MPD simply binds to your ipv6 interface first, which makes the same address unavailable for ipv4.
simply bind mpd to 127.0.0.1 exclusively in mpd.conf or (more brutal) remove the ipv6 module.

Thanks, that fixed the adress already in use error! But the biggesst error still remains, I still get the "connection refused" when running ncmpcpp or mpc. Maybe it has something to do with the database? Since I removed all my old files I still get the connection refused error on the client side, but now at least there seems to be something related to that in the mpd output. As you can see in my earlier post

It's not related. If it was, that would mean MPD would not start up until you generated a database.

delete that file. mpd does not create a database file, before scanning completed. So its likely anything went wrong there.

there is no error message. the warning about missing db file is obvious - it will be created.
Be aware that the file wont be written, until the scanning finished.
About the connection refused error:
maybe you have some wrong settings in ~/.ncmpcpp/config
try this:

That didn't change anything. And I don't know if I said it earlier but I get the same connection refused error when I run mpc. So I don't think it's an ncmpcpp error, but a mpd one.

well then, i am out of ideas. if you have mpd: ALL in hosts.allow and bind mpd to 127.0.0.1 (and of course connect from localhost - NOT from outside) then you have done all that can be done.
some iptable rules maybe?

I've run into the same problem. What I did was to start a clean mpd install:
sudo pkill mpd
sudo pacman -R --nosave mpd
sudo rm -r /var/lib/mpd
sudo rm -r /var/run/mpd
Beware with the above remove commands
Installed git version from AUR (I don't think that has nothing to do with this. Just mentioning it) and prepared a couple of things
mkdir -p ~/.mpd/playlists
sudo cp /usr/share/mpd/mpd.conf.example /etc
Edited the mpd.conf.example in etc
music_directory "~/music"
playlist_directory "~/.mpd/playlists"
db_file "~/.mpd/mpd.db"
log_file "~/.mpd/mpd.log"
user "[youruser]"
bind_to_address "127.0.0.1"
port "6600"
Then
sudo mv /etc/mpd.conf.example /etc/mpd.conf
Finally, I added this to /etc/hosts.allow
mpd: ALL
I'm using ncmpcpp and mpd is running fine now, but hell... it made me sweat this afternoon =P
