xbacklight does not work

Hi guys,

I have a samsung R510 laptop running Arch and I can't set display brightness with xbacklight. However, the command

 sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=XX

(where XX is a hexadecimal number from 00 to FF) does work. It needs root privileges, through. I'd like to be able to set the brightness without resorting to "low-level" commands like setpci.

Any ideas how I could make xbacklight work?

Thanks

Re: xbacklight does not work

I know of no way to get xbacklight to work if your hardware does not like it. It would be easy enough to use "visudo" to add something like this:

(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/setpci

to your sudoers file and then to bind that command of yours to a keystroke.
