So I've bought this Toshiba Satellite L650D-12P, but it just won't work. I've tried several different dists, Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10, Aptosid, Arch Linux 2010.05 and the latest build - to no avail. I've tried x86 and x86_64 builds, not much difference.
I've tried inserting the acpi=off, acpi=copy_dsdt and pci=nocrs, but it didn't work.
The specs:
AMD Phenom X3 P820 1.8GHz
Northbridge: AMD 785GX
Southbridge: SB800
BIOS: Incyde (I've never heard of it before. Updated to the newest version, 1.6)
4GB DDR3
AMD Mobility Radeon 5650
Arch Linux X86_64 with acpi=off

Arch Linux X86_64 with pci=nocrs

Arch Linux X86 boot with no extra parameters

Arch Linux X86 with acpi=copy_dsdt

I just don't get what's wrong here. Anyone with a solution to this rather boring problem?

Wow, that is not a boring problem! It doesn't look very promising either:

This chap got Ubuntu9.04 installed and then upgraded:

Also this thread suggests changing SATA mode to compatible (in BIOS):

I suppose you tried just resetting your BIOS to default parameters and trying again?

You're right, that doesn't look very promising.
I've tried changing SATA mode to compatible; no difference. Resetting BIOS made no difference either. Guess I'll just have to contact Toshiba and hope for the best.
Thanks, lagagnon.
