Missing some filesystems

Since I reinstalled recently, I've had problems with mounting some volumes.

When i use the command

#mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

I get: mount: unknown filesystem type 'vfat'

and when i use

#smbmount //upstairs/SharedDocs /mnt/xp
Password:

I get:
ERROR: smbfs filesystem not supported by kernel
smbmount failed: 255

anyone have a clue what is going wrong?[/code]

edit:  I'm using the kernel26 package btw

Re: Missing some filesystems

I think it's to do with change in NLS support in latest kernels.  I posted a request for assistance about this a few months ago and somebody kindly explained it to me - however the thread got deleted in error, along with a number of others at that time.
I resolved the problem with mounting vfat partitions by adding this to fstab:

codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-1
