everything that was there was moved couples of weeks ago when 2.32 was released. Now we are waiting at least the last beta to start packaging it again

Re: gnome unstable repository

Noticed a gtk3 package during 'pacman -Syu' in my system. Does this mean gnome-shell will be packaged soon?

gnome-shell != gnome 3

Still, it'll probably make gnome-shell a bit easier to compile, for those who want it.

I was thinking that gnome 3 = gnome shell; if that's not true does it means that gnome 2 interface (gnome-panel) will be still available in gnome 3?

Re: gnome unstable repository

@Cosmin yes. it has a fallback mode to gnome-panel.

Re: gnome unstable repository

What's up with gnome-unstable? I only see gtk3 + a few other packages, will there be a full gnome3 test candidate?

I guess that warning goes for Gnome 2 apps alone, not gtk2 apps. I have both gtk2 and gtk3 installed and non-gnome gtk apps like firefox, disk-utility and pcmanfm work fine. I currently use kde 4.6 although gnome 2 is installed in my system. Will try out gnome3 + gnome-shell once it comes into gnome-unstable repo.

BTW new gnome-disk-utility release requires gtk3 now http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-disk- … /tree/NEWS .

Re: gnome unstable repository

@Wonder: You think that someday xulrunner for Arch will split the spidermonkey piece out?  Its really scary how big xulrunner is when the new css java-based engine for GNOME 3 is linked to and only uses the spidermonkey piece of xulrunner.

it's hard to split spidermonkey from xul but here is a bug report that worth following.

Re: gnome unstable repository

Oh nice, I wasn't aware of this outstanding bug report.  I have just been frequently annoyed when building gnome-shell in the past with the large dependency that provides almost nothing for it.  I tried to mimic Debian actually a couple times (they split mozilla up with an actual standalone libmozjs package), but Debian rules/controls are a nightmare imo.  I'll just keep hoping that the GNOME team will eventually port gjs to link to a standalone java engine library.

gtk3 is a dependency of gconf? How does that work?

gnome-shell look awesome. just one question:
how can i start it not with gnome-shell --replace?
is it possible that compiz-icon/gdm will recognize it automaticly and give me the option?

BTW, the new icons are really looking great.

Assaf

try gconf-editor

DESKTOP->GNOME->SESSION->reqired_comp.... ->windowmanager     and replace metacity with gnome-shell
for me it's working
i dont know what  GDM do to recognize sessions but if you find solution, tell me

Was gnome-shell removed again? It is not in the repo ... ?

Re: gnome unstable repository

It's not removed, it needs to be rebuilded to 2.91.90 (released today). I'm rebuilding it right now with jhbuild, damn gnome git repositories are slow today, I wonder why big_smile big_smile big_smile. We just have to wait for all newly released gnome projects to be rebuilded and packaged, I guess in a day or two - cause I don't see any problems compiling Gnome 3.0 in its current state.
