Re: gnome unstable repository

I think that you may not be interested in bug reports yet (since package uploading isn't finished), but since I tried to start GNOME 3 from gnome-unstable (x86_64) I got this error (gnome didn't start):

_IceTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_IceTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/prometheus:
_IceTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6
gnome-session[17996]: GLib-GIO-ERROR: Settings schema 'org.gnome.screensaver' is not installed

aborting...

That makes two of us, I wouldn't call this a beta yet. Year and a half of prolonged code crunching - and this is not even close to usable. And a month and a small change to go untill the final release.

Re: gnome unstable repository

GLib-GIO-ERROR: Settings schema 'org.gnome.screensaver' is not installed

Getting the same error here. Can't get into a gnome-session.

Also when updating to libnotify0.7 all hell breaks loose.(nothing depending on it works, ie nearly everything) I have to keep it at 0.5

Re: gnome unstable repository

I like the new gnome shell, well, I didn't have the time to test it.

Btw, I also updated from gnome-unstable now, couldn't resist, and now gdm isn't starting. I will try if I can fix this on my own.

Re: gnome unstable repository

Installing gnome-screensaver as mentioned in one of those bug reports does not solve this problem for me.
I'm not familiar with these 'schema files', but know that /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/ does not contain 'org.gnome.screensaver.schema' even after installing gnome-screensaver.

Re: gnome unstable repository

I am not sure how you are supposed to have the schema, but *if* you find it, copy it to /usr/share/glib-2/schemas and run

# glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/

you should be fine. This worked for me for other missing schemas (I've been jhbuilding for a lot of time).
Besides, there are some extensions in gnome-shell-extensions repository on git.gnome.org that make the experience much better (at least I think so).

Re: gnome unstable repository

gsettings-desktop-schemas-0.1.7 has org.gnome.desktop.screensaver.

Re: gnome unstable repository

Unfortunately not.

I am using gnome shell through jhbuild and I have not installed the gnome-screensaver.

Besides, I looked into gnome-screensaver repository and found this:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-scree … 8d1c23d4f1

It seems they dropped gsettings rules into their makefile since there is no schema available. Hope I've got it right.

Edit after wonder message: I am a moron. What is that commit then?

Re: gnome unstable repository

you should look at only one commit. the schema for gnome-screensaver was moved to gsettings-desktop-schemas and gnome-session 2.91.90 now uses the correct name.

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-sessi … eef5587827

to fix that "issues" a workaround should be to add gsettings-desktop-schemas as dependency for gnome-session

Re: gnome unstable repository

I managed to get past the screensaver thing by changing that line in gnome-session, and I actually get the blue desktop background drawn, but that's pretty much it. Nothing else loads, loads of warnings and errors...but hey, I tried wink

I just copied the file /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.desktop.screensaver.gschema.xml to  /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.screensaver.gschema.xml and removed desktop{.,/} in some parts in the new file.

Btw,
I just update some packeges to the newest release big_smile

why didn't you update gnome-session to 2.91.90.1 instead of copying that crap to a different name?

Others may not, but it's your decision. smile
Besides, anyone else with gnome 3 running in fallback mode complaining about video hardware's weakness? I had no problems running compiz ore metacity with compiz enabled. It is an intel chip inside a fuji-siemens laptop.

Re: gnome unstable repository

I've got a new schemas-related error concerning: "org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.browser"
It seems it was removed: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/commits … 02734.html
but something is still trying to load it...Also no input devices are available..I'm getting as far as the new background being displayed and a warning popping up about low disk-space on one of my partitions, but I cannot dismiss the warning as neither mouse nor key input seem to work...

Some packages are out of date. If you know which package tries to load it, then update it. Maybe it helps.
Try to grab the PKGBUILDs and update it yourself or wait for wonder JGC to update the repo.

Re: gnome unstable repository

I don't know if this has already been fixed (but the packages have not been updated yet) : when I try to install the whole gnome group, I get the following error :

checking for file conflicts...
/usr/share/sounds/gnome/default/alerts/bark.ogg exists in both 'gnome-control-center' and 'gnome-media'
/usr/share/sounds/gnome/default/alerts/drip.ogg exists in both 'gnome-control-center' and 'gnome-media'
/usr/share/sounds/gnome/default/alerts/glass.ogg exists in both 'gnome-control-center' and 'gnome-media'
/usr/share/sounds/gnome/default/alerts/sonar.ogg exists in both 'gnome-control-center' and 'gnome-media'

By the way, where are all the PKGBUILD files ?

Re: gnome unstable repository

The PKGBUILDs are in svn, so they will show up in abs eventually (/var/abs/gnome-unstable, if you enable it). As for installing it: DON'T. You can only install this stuff if you really know what you're doing. I'm running most of the packages in fallback mode, but I'm also running packages that I haven't committed yet.
Installing packages from gnome-unstable in the current state means a wrecked system and lots of applications failing to load due to soname bumps.
