Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

Ok I tried the beta and the new behavior regarding showing filenames is better however I have one suggestion:

When the mouse is no longer hovering over a folder or file, the statusbar should become blank again or if a file/folder is currently selected, it should show its name.

Edit: BTW the new properties dialog for folder seems to have more empty space on the top and middle now:

Edit 2: sometimes clicking properties will result in a blank window and qtfm will become unresponsive:

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

You don't seem to be seeing the frames, not sure why, might be to do with your theme.  Should look like this
4.7.beta.jpg

The hover thing is problematic, I only get messages 'entering' items not leaving, so clearing it while not hovering is a bit tricky.

I have never had a freeze, is it reproducible?

I've tried several themes (Aurora, Clearlooks, Raleigh, ThinIce) but none show the frames.

Edit: If I change the Qt theme from GTK+, I can see the frames. But I really prefer using the Gtk+ theme if possible.

Not reliably. Its happens frequently but not always.

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

4.7 beta builds and runs fine and the white background has gone from the icon files, thanks for that smile
In the default pop up window for keyboard shortcuts I have an entry for back but not one for forward and an entry for zoom in but not zoom out.
Here's a couple of pics (I use dwm as a window manager so don't look for window decorations):

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

Didn't get to test the beta yet but the screenshots of the properties dialogues look really nice. Your 3 different types of properties dialogues are pretty cool karabaja4, but I also like the frames to set the more concrete information apart from the free-space-parent-drive-information, Wittfella. Imho the parent drive stuff would have a good place at the bottom of the window.

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

Hello everybody,

Introduction:

I am new to Archlinux, after playing around a little bit with several distros (3 months), I decided to adopt Arch for my linux learning on my laptop.

Well using Arch along with openbox, my laptop has actually 1.7Gb of memory, but my intention is to use the minimun memory possible but still be able to run nice applications, so I could in the future install it in my frend's lower memory systems, any ways, thanks for this excelent file manager.

Actually installed Arch and Openbox following the excelent Arch guide for beginners, but after that  I just installed Archbang! wich comes with thunar, but I wanted to drag and drop, no way, wanted two panels?..I don't know. sad

So I installed emelFm ;( hanged on a simple operation) then pacman -R emelfm bye, bye.. smile

Installed qtfm wow (very heavy download althoug) but it works nicely.

Question:

Iinstalled with pacman -S qtfm but mine is version 4.6 and I see there is already 4.7, why pacman does not grab this one?

because is only experimental?

Thanks again

PD. ok I see some more reading needed, thanks (I did not finish the whole guide! jejeje) smile ABS

You mean all 100kb of it... tongue

Joke...I'm guessing you mean you had to pull Qt at the same time.  Well its a good investment, and you only do it once and now you can use tonnes of Qt apps for free smile

Updated 4.7.beta if you want to test it.  I'm not sure if I found the freezing problem, let me know if it still happens.

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

Hi, thanks for this fast browser. I'm using 4.7-1 version.

Most of my files have spanish names, so we have accents over some vowels. When this is the case, qtfm doesnt show these files.

Another suggestion:
Can the icon of hidden files change when it shows them and when it doesnt??? or at least change the label from "hidden files" to "not hidden" or something like that so we know its state.

cheers, and thanks again.

Hmm...don't know too much about foreign characters.  Do they work ok in other Qt apps?

What theme are you using, doesn't the toolbar/menu icon stay toggled?  It should be obvious whether its on or off.

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

Dolphin displays them correctly.
SMplayer can't reproduce them with that name, but VLC can.

About the icon.
Looks like that might be the problem. I'm using Oxygen-colors, a slight modification of oxygen theme.
Here is an image of what i was saying:
http://img195.imageshack.us/i/qtfm.png/

Setting the original theme back allows me to see the difference like the icons on its left. But in this precisely theme that icon is different and i cant see that is checked.

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

That icon is borked six ways, its to due with the theme.  Someone else had that problem, I think it was the ClearlooksOSX theme.  I checked it out at the time to see what was wrong.

The theme was so non-standard I gave up.  It didn't seem to follow the freedesktop scheme at all.  This biggest problem was that it didn't have the range of icon sizes, everything was lumped in the svg folder, and to make matters worse, they were not even svg's, they were all png's.  Maybe yours is a similar.  I can only suggest try a different theme, there a lots that work fine.  There's not much I can do with that one I'm afraid.

I'll have a look into the internationalization stuff and see about the foreign characters.

Edit:
I just remembered that I do have a few music files around with foreign characters, so I checked and they are working fine in qtfm.  Can you give me some examples of your filenames, maybe email me a text file with some. wittfella@qtfm.org

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

Hey Viper,

I checked it out, all works good for me.  It might be to do with your locale settings or some such.  I'm just using standard 'en_US.UTF-8' (<-- check its like this, not en_US.utf8, I think it makes a difference).

Also, if they are not working in your terminal it could be it doesn't support unicode.  Try urxvt, if it does not work in that, then I definitely say its a locale problem.

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

Using qtfm 4.7-1:
- when I right-click on a selected directory, and left-click Open, the directory is opened up in 5 new Firefox tabs (presumably this is xdg-open)
- when I right-click a select file, and left-click Open, the file is loaded into 5 seperate instances of the associated program!
hmm

Hi wittfella.

i installed urxvt and the same happens. So i checked locale sentence: LOCALE="en_US.UTF-8"

Well now this is driving me crazy. Dolphin now shows the ? character and not the vowel with the accent.

but good news: now i can create files with those characters in qtfm, i swear i couldnt before.

I've changed the names through the terminal, cause i couldnt via dolphin, and now i can see the files and characters correctly.

I guess it was something Windows-making related.

Well, thanks for everything. nice cool icons in your image btw. waiting for that update to 4.8

Re: qtFM - Small, fast, light Qt filemanager

hey i just installed arch linux and openbox today. i tried installing with pacman with sudo pacman -S qtfm
that didn't seem to work(pacman doesn't find the package...it does find other packages) so i tried to download the source(4.8) and install qtfm from that.  When i tried ./configure after extracting the tarball it said that was invalid...of course because there was no config script.  i then checked the readme and tried the two options there qmake and qmake-qt4...neither of which do anything. am i just totally screwing something up?
