Acer Aspire 5742

Hi,

I'm running KDE 4.6 on Arch 2.6.37, 64 bit, and I cannot for the life of me work out how to dim the screen. It doesn't respond to xbacklight or any KDE command. I've seen online some suggestions involving setpci, but they don't work and I'm not too clear on how to make it work.

I've seen on the wiki that it says this is a known problem and suggests a temporary fix is to add acpi_osi= to my grub config. I've done that and it doesn't seem to have had any effect. I'm not even sure what effect it's supposed to have.

Can anyone help?

Re: Acer Aspire 5742

I found a solution, but it did involve installing a dev version of the graphics driver. I installed the AUR xf86-video-intel-git 20110221-1 and that has now resolved the problem nicely, even to the extent that the keyboard shortcuts to lighten/darken the screen are working.

Everything else seems to be working fine with the graphics. So thank you to whoever is maintaining that package smile
