Blender crashes when I try to adjust something

On AwesomeWM, Blender crashes when I try to expand the bar by dragging it. However, on GNOME, it works fine (there is lag, but it doesn't crash).

My blender version is:

>>> blender -v                                                              [~]
Blender 2.49 (sub 2) Build

Here is the error I get when I try to drag the bar:

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  Major opcode of failed request: 73 (X_GetImage)
  Serial number of failed request: 8512
  Current serial number in output stream: 8512

Here is what I mean by dragging something:

Where the sections separate (the object side on the left and the script side on the right), you are supposed to be able to drag it from side to side to adjust

Well, yeah but...you know. It's an inconvenience. The error looks like it is an X problem, not GTK

Re: Blender crashes when I try to adjust something

Blender UI is not GTK. It's a built-in UI entirely drawn using OpenGL.

Searching for solution to the same error I stumbled upon this old thread.
