Ugh this is aggravating
hi everyone
I installed Arch Linux today and just installed firefox. I want to be able to install the 64 bit version of the flash player plugin successfully with out any issues. I followed the instructions on this site:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … bit_System
but no matter what i do, the flash player will not work at all on my Firefox 3.6.8 install
also I tried to reinstall flashplugin and this is what i get after the installation is over:
nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for /usr/lib32/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
To use the flash player in firefox, you must set
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled
to true in about:config. It will crash a lot otherwise.
so i did what it instructed me to do, and still am not able to get flashplayer to work..
I also installed flashplugin-prerelease and removed flashplugin and it STILL wont work..
seriously does Adobe have to make it THIS difficult?

I have tried that
pacman -Syu gives me the following output:
<code>
:: Starting full system upgrade...
warning: ca-certificates: local (20090814+nmu2-1) is newer than core (20090814-3)
warning: curl: local (7.21.2-2) is newer than extra (7.21.0-1)
warning: pacman: local (3.4.1-1) is newer than core (3.4.0-2)
warning: run-parts: local (3.4.1-1) is newer than core (3.2.3-1)
there is nothing to do
</code>
then when i run pacman -S firefox it still tries to install firefox-3.6.8-1

Sounds like you need to check your mirrorlist and the pacman -Syyu

what exactly should i be looking for in the mirrorlist? I have a few mirrors uncommented for the United States. I ran pacman -Syyu and i still get the same problems

Why are you try to install 32 bit flash when there is native 64 bit available in AUR: flashplugin-prerelease 10.2.161.23-3
No nspluginwrapper or other crap is needed, just works fine....

-pick an up-to-date mirror in Mirrorstatus
-update
-remove ALL flash-releated stuff you did install
-install what I suggested from AUR
It should work then, unless you broke your system somehow before

There is a 64bit flash plug in released by adobe, called flashplayer square plugin. They have an independent released for 64bit Linux distributions.
You can easily extract the plugin and place it inside "plugins" folder, which is found inside ".mozilla" hidden folder inside your profile folder. If you don't have a folder named "plugins", then create it!
get the flashplayer square for 64bit linux systems from here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashpl … quare.html
It will really work nicely, without the bugs many users experienced because of the one installed from the AUR, or the "flashplugin" in pacman, for that one is originally a 32bit one, packed for 64bit systems.

You're referring to something which is already available in the AUR, on a thread where the OP has already satisfactorily solved his problem. Not necessary.

Not to mention that the flashplayer he linked to is outdated (many sites are blocking it now) and full of security holes, and that he is wrong about flash in aur.

I just read this thread, but now I'm confused about the best way to get 64-bit flash support. Someone please provide a bottom-line solution.

I suggest simply using flashplugin in [multilib].

Read the wiki. Don't use Arch if you expect solutions handed to you on a plate.
