I'm starting a wiki about gnome 3.0. [1]
The theme can be changed using dconf-editor in org.gnome.desktop.interface. Sadly there aren't any gtk3 theme available yet

Does someone know if it is possible to change the behavior of the notification panel at the bottom in gnome-shell so that it stays visible, for example if you got a message on skype or pidgin?
I can't use empathy as it keeps disconnecting from openfire server. The way notification works in gnome-shell is really not convenient. I am using IM for work and I need to have something that blink which constantly reminds me I got a message.

Thanks for packaging all this. I'm loving it!
Network manager applet can't seem to find my wireless network in its left-click menu. I can still connect by using right-click-> edit connections, entering my network details, then running "nmcli con up id <network name>", however. I'm fully updated now, but this started immediately after the upgrade to the 9 beta.

like always gnome-unstable should be used only if you have testing repo enabled. it should work with wpa_supplicant 0.7.3-3

Anybody knows how to auto focus a new window? From time to time gnome-shell says "... is ready" and I need to use several clicks to find the newly opened window.
One thing I could found is in gconf->app->metacity->general->focus_new_windows, but there are only two options "smart" and "strict", none seems to work.

@tririver you shouldn't look at metacity, gnome-shell runs mutter.

Today after update network manager, when I am in my office (using cable), my nm-applet keeps trying connecting my home wireless, which do not have signal at all. Maybe it's an upstream bug...

Hi everybody. Gnome 3 looks nice, I tried it on live cd. Moreover I installed it with the gnome-unstable repository and the problem is that I can't launch gnome-shell, when I launch a gnome session their is none panels. I know why, because gnome-shell can't start.
Why? To answer this question I did a gnome-shell --replace and obtained:
gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-3.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Regarding this message I have to install gtk3 package, but it's already installed...
Please could someone help me? What I did wrong?

this come to often on forum and on irc. STOP cherry picking from gnome-unstable.
to update your current gnome 2.32 to 3.0 beta 2
1) enable testing
2) add gnome-unstable above testing
3) pacman -Rnsc gnome-panel-bonobo
4) pacman -Syu
doing this you would only have fallback mode
5) pacman -S gnome-shell
to install on a fresh system you need to do step 1 and 2 and pacman -S gnome

Thanks for your instruction. How stupid I was I actived those repository before installing gnome, the difference is here.
Now when I try to launch gnome-shell I obtain this message: gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-3.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Their is something that I don't understand, when I launch gnome without gnome-shell (by deleting the package), gnome said me that my graphic card can't launch the magnicient metacity except that I can launch games and kwin with it...
For this I don't worry I just focus on: libgtk-3.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file, this file is not even if I installed gtk3.

The important thing is to put testing and gnome-unstable BEFORE core and community. Then follow his step again.

to install on a fresh system you need to do step 1 and 2 and pacman -S gnome
I had troubles with conflicting gnome-themes and gnome-themes-standard, had to put gnome-themes on ignore while doing pacman -S gnome

I don't understand, I followed your instructions and thanks guys but I still have this message gnome-shell: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-3.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Moreover gtk3 is install, and my pacman.conf is as you describe. I can launch a gnome session but not gnome-shell (don't worry I'm not in TTY and waiting for him^^). It's just that I want to try it and don't worry I don't blame you it's just because you can launch it I was thinking of what mistake is their on my pc for not launching it. By searching in my drectories I can't find this libgtk-3.0.so.0 .... How strange....

Hello.
Followed all the tips in a virtualbox based archlinux install.
But, I cannot get gnome to start. Every single time, I get kicked out with a "failed to log session Gnome".
No previous gnome installed, only gnome-unstable. Any idea ?

Assuming that your mirrors are all for the same architecture, your system isn't up to date with the proper packages. Either the repos that you are using aren't syncing properly or you didn't follow wonder's instructions exactly. If you're sure that you got the instructions correct, then you need to check on your mirror status.

I had this too.
I fixed that by using gnome-unstable/gnome and gnome-unstable/gnome-extra with pacman.

this is your problem. My doing that, pacman didn't install metacity, which is used as fallback mode. You won't be able to run gnome-shell under virtualbox .

Thanks for the info. Anyway, doing what your propose install a lot of gnome 2.32 packages
And I have gnome-themes / gnome-themes-standard conflict
Too bad for gnome-shell. I really want to test it without "breaking" my real computer !
