What is the proper way to upgrade whole KDE with a single command that is not the complete -Syu ?
powerpill -Sy kde... does not do the job. After it has run, there are still packages that haven't been upgraded to 4.6.1, some of them absolutely crucial, e.g.
kdebase-lib-4.6.1-1
kdebase-runtime-4.6.1-1
kdelibs-4.6.1-1

What? If anything, the symptom I described indicates existing breakage. The kde group is broken: it doesn't include some basic pieces of KDE.

arch does not support partial updates. if you upgrade a kde package that has been built against a lib that you didnt upgraded then you'll enjoy some breakage.

Even if it did contain the whole kde, you should only ever do full system updates, not partial ones.

If you don't want to upgrade some packages put them in /etc/pacman,conf IgnorePkg, e.g. 'IgnorePkg = kernel26' and upgrade via 'pacman -Syu'.

op is more looking for a whitelist than a blacklist. anyway, what he wants to do should be avoided.
