rTorrent Help

Hey all,

I'm trying to get rTorrent up and running. However, when I load my .torrent file in rTorrent and get this error message:

Could not open file "/home/mark/Downloads/Torrents/Ubuntu/Ubuntu.iso

Everything past torrents got cut off, but you get the general idea.

Here's my .rtorrent.rc

# This is an example resource file for rTorrent. Copy to
# ~/.rtorrent.rc and enable/modify the options as needed. Remember to
# uncomment the options you wish to enable.

max_peers = 200

max_peers_seed = 50

# Maximum number of simultanious uploads per torrent.
max_uploads = 32

# Global upload and download rate in KiB. "0" for unlimited.
download_rate = 1328
upload_rate = 149

# Default directory to save the downloaded torrents.
directory = /home/mark/Downloads/Torrents

# Default session directory. Make sure you don't run multiple instance
# of rtorrent using the same session directory. Perhaps using a
# relative path?
session = /home/mark/.session

#

#

# Hash read-ahead controls how many MB to request the kernel to read
# ahead. If the value is too low the disk may not be fully utilized,
# while if too high the kernel might not be able to keep the read
# pages in memory thus end up trashing.
#hash_read_ahead = 10

# Interval between attempts to check the hash, in milliseconds.
#hash_interval = 100

# Number of attempts to check the hash while using the mincore status,
# before forcing. Overworked systems might need lower values to get a
# decent hash checking rate.
#hash_max_tries = 10

Any ideas? Do i have to create dummy files before the torrents download? Because that's really annoying.

Re: rTorrent Help

I think you should check the permissions of Torrents directory.

Re: rTorrent Help

I would try moving the torrent file one directory up to .../Torrents

Re: rTorrent Help

So, is the ISO actually called Ubuntu.iso  rather than something more specific like Ubuntu10.04-AMD64.iso ?

Re: rTorrent Help

Sorry but i don't get the general idea. where exactly are you getting this message: "Could not open file "/home/mark/Downloads/Torrents/Ubuntu/Ubuntu.iso"?
1: check to see if the download is complete and
2: then mount or burn the iso as you like, which however is not a function of rtorrent
3: dummy files are not needed

Re: rTorrent Help

I took some liberty with the file name because that doesn't matter, and it was partially cut off.

The download doesn't start. I get the error message upon loading the .torrent. Tried changing the directory, no dice.

Any other ideas?

Re: rTorrent Help

You are not very clear in the information you give. I gather from you that you want to download Ubuntu/Ubuntu.iso and it doesn't start after you load the torrent file. This means that ubuntu.iso doesn't exist at the moment. Since you have a session folder it could be that the idea to look for ubuntu.iso comes from there - ie, a previous session that you have canceled. If nothing is important at this point clear out your session folder to start a fresh torrent session for Ubuntu/Ubuntu.iso. The other possibility is that you are saying that Ubuntu/Ubuntu.iso exists but rtorrent cannot find it. In which case you need to check the path, permissions, etc. And telling us "no dice" is not helpful. You should tell us what error messages you get.

... or the torrent contains resume info. ruTorrent uploaders do that to you.
