Thunar

Hi I have just installed thunar to use as my file manager for fluxbox. I have three configuration questions:

1) Is it possible to change it so that I can rename files/folder by clicking on the item once (currently have to right click --> rename)?

2) Certain features have no icon/image associated with them in the menu after I right click on an item. For example, "Open terminal here" shows as red X; same thing for right click --> send to --> mail recipient. Is there anyway to fix this? I have installed gnome-icon-theme so the folder, documents, pictures, drives, etc all have icons.

3) Would it be possible to make a pop-up to confirm that I want to delete file/folder?

Thanks.

Re: Thunar

2; Try to install the Tango icon theme. On my Thunar the icons are a bit of a mess.

Re: Thunar

Installing this theme did not change anything.  Thanks though.

Re: Thunar

1. Select the file/folder and press F2.
3. You don't need a pop-up. Suppose that you accidentally delete a file/folder you can restore it from Trash.

Re: Thunar

I will try to install a theme from this website and see if it makes a difference.  Botzoboy - as far as I know I don't have a trash in fluxbox...

Re: Thunar

The Trash is a feature of your file manager (Thunar) not your WM (Fluxbox). However to get the Trash working, you need to install gvfs.

Re: Thunar

Ok.  Well after installing gvfs which requires tons of dependencies, I still don't see a Trash feature and wiki does not include a section on this.  Preferably, however, I would just like a warning if possible.  I really don't need a trash can feature with a lot of dependencies.  It's more that if I were to inadvertently hit delete it would be sad if it took out a folder immediately :-/

Also, once I have downloaded a theme from gnome-look.org; how do I install it (and then uninstall it if I choose to look at another one) and then implement for thunar to use?

Thank you!

Re: Thunar

i second your request, but i'm afraid the option isn't available.

anyway, you could have a look to some simple trash bin programs written for bash, like this
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=38712
and maybe shortcut the canc key to execute it. but i dont know really.. i'm using gvfs (for other purposes too).

Re: Thunar

Re. the theme question, this is what I do, at least:
- download the theme (usually zip, tar.gz, or tar.bz2)
- unpack it (unzip, tar -xvzf or tar -xvjf)
- copy the resultant folder to /usr/share/themes/, e.g.

$ tar -xvzf theme.tar.gz
sudo cp -r theme-folder-name /usr/share/themes/what-i-want-to-call-it

Then use whatever fluxbox uses to set the theme. I use openbox so you use obconf (main ob theme) or lxappearance (gtk theme and icons). I don't know what you should use. If you don't like it later, just:

$ sudo rm -r /usr/share/themes/what-i-want-to-call-it

That's that. Themes stay put in their own folders and don't spread out anywhere else.

Oh: and to your trash question... I hear you. While most programs use trash, I think when my smb/cifs folder is mounted, it doesn't use trash but just deletes... but then again, I might get a popup. I use pcmanfm, though. Maybe look into that? I think it has an option to ask you if you want to delete? I used to use Thunar but don't see anything it did that pcmanfm doesn't (that I miss). It's been great except for not being quite as customizable in the left panel (I don't care to have all potential mountable folders showing up there all the time).

Re: Thunar

There is also a way to make a custom action for thunar with rm -rf (definitely skipping trash) with a pop-up made with zenity. Maybe there are better ways to do this. I have complete xfce so i don't have trash problems but wanted to have a rm -rf option while asking for a confirmation.

#!/bin/bash
zenity --question --text "Insert your question here"
if [ $? = 0 ]; then
   rm -fvr "$@" >> $HOME/log
fi
echo $@ >> $HOME/log

Of course, this still needs zenity.

Re: Thunar

To use the trash you have to start thunar with

dbus-launch thunar

Same thing with pcmanfm.

Re: Thunar

@skull-y: are you sure this is required? Or is it implied/the default in some systems? I don't start pcmanfm (nor did I thunar when I used it) this way and my trash works fine. I have dbus in my daemons array and start openbox with 'ck-launch-session openbox-session' -- perhaps this enables is doing the equivalent of explicitly using dbus-launch?
