I have been expecting to see a report of this problem all day, but nobody elso has posted, so maybe I am the one with it. On doing pacman -Syu and confirming that I do want to remove xorg-res-utils:
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: xorg-appres and xorg-res-utils are in conflict. Remove xorg-res-utils? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: xorg-clients: requires xorg-res-util
Have I missed an advisory to remove something manually, or screwed up in some other way?

Many thaks Karol. Removing xscreensaver (which I am not using at the moment in any case), fixed it.

You should remove xorg-clients and xorg-res-utils instead. Both packages are removed from the repositories. xorg-clients was removed ages ago.

I take the opportunity of your answer to signal that I tried to remove the transition package xorg-xkb-utils, but I can't because of the dependencies : xkeyboard-config and xorg-server-common.
xkeyboard-config has been updated to 2.1 in trunk with change in dependency, but not transferred to testing/extra yet;
and xorg-server-common, which is a part of xorg-server, still has the dependency to xorg-xkb-utils.
It would be good to be able to remove the transition package xorg-xkb-utils.
Thanks.

I'm having the same issue! But i didn't understand what to do!
Should i remove xscreensaver (which I use!) and reinstall it later?
i cannot remove ONLY xorg-res-utils...it is required by xscreensaver.
Thanks a lot
