Digital Sound Distortion on one channel with audiophile 2496 ( ice171)

Hello,

As described in the headline, i have a problem with my soundsetup.
I use an Audiophile 2496 Soundcard (which uses the ice1712 driver)
together with alsa. One day, i heard a weird kind of digital, high
distortion on the left speaker. Fearing that my Alesis Monitors were
damaged I booted to windows and tested it there. The strange distortion
was gone. Back to linux I changed the speaker cables and as a result
of this the distortion was now heard from the right speaker.

So i have the problem, that I don't know where to start.
I would be very nice if someone can give a roadmap for analyzing the problem.

I have checked some logs, but didn't find any errors. (daemon.log, everything.log, dmesg)

I also disabled the onboard soundcard in bios, but this doesn't effect anything.

I think, that the distortion is more pregnant, if sounds are played which are compressed
with lower bitrates.

try to run again alsaconf.... now you have disabled onboard audio codec, something has change.....
