Building glibc for a very old kernel

I'm trying to update as much as I can an old system which runs kernel 2.6.9. I'm trying to compile glibc but obviously the latest versions give me lots of headaches. So I was wondering which is the newest version that is compatible with my ancient kernel, but I didn't find such information on the web.
Can anyone please help me? Thanks

Re: Building glibc for a very old kernel

Why aren't you upgrading the kernel as well?

Re: Building glibc for a very old kernel

My life would be easier if I would have complete control over my cluster... smile
The problem is that the computing facility at my institute is shared between various research groups, and the IT guys are very nasty about system upgrades (that's why we still use kernel 2.6.9). I've installed many packages on my home folder (GCC 4.5, cmake, git...) and set up a "parallel" environment which works quite well, but with upgrading glibc I'm facing lots of problems which seems related to compatibility with the ancient kernel. That's why I'm asking for help... smile
