Jerky playback, high cpu mythtv

I upgraded my mythtv box yesterday, and now the playback of any program is really jerky.  Audio runs in time, but video is like watching a slideshow (almost).  I checked top and X is running 75% cpu.  What might be going on?

Re: Jerky playback, high cpu mythtv

With slow playback and I cpu usage, I would guess that you're getting software rendering. Perhaps you need to rebuild a propritary video driver after the kernel bump?

You can check your rendering with

$ glxinfo | grep render

Re: Jerky playback, high cpu mythtv

Forgot to reply to this; she who uses the mythtv was in a hurry for a fix.

I had been trying to run myth without a window manager, which is apparently feasible, but it was resulting in this problem.  So I reinstalled a window manager and it runs fine.  When she is gone for a couple days I will try again, and check the rendering to see if this is what's going on.
