I'm sure some of you know this already but it was new to me and I thought it looked cool. Thanks to Dejan Cabrilo for sharing this with me.
Anyways, you can set mplayer to play videos in ASCII, for a sort of a 'matrixy' feel. To do that:
- get the mplayer PKGBUILD from ABS
- make sure you have aalib installed (pacman -S aalib)
- makepkg
- mplayer's configure script will magically find aalib and compile the support in.
- play a movie with: mplayer -vo aa name_of_movie.avi
