Hi,
i have a problem with quakelive and archlinux.
On my box i have archlinux (main os), Win7, Debian and Kanotix installed
and only on archlinux it won't go
Single Player (Practice) works like a charm, smooth fast, but multiplayer won't start,
If i try connect to a server everything looks good in the console (condump) :
Hunk_Clear: reset the hunk ok

Waiting for authentication.please start TA directly]\condump quakelive.log
Dumped console text to quakelive.log.
The authentication seems be passed and on the game screen i see "Awaiting gamestate..."
and the only thing i can do is abort this with ESC because nothing will happend.
Looks like the client waiting for some data from the server but nothing happend, after aborting with ESC
and looking at the quakelive gamebrowser in firefox i can see my nick for a while on the server like i was connected.
Really, really annoying ...
I have tried :
backup and remove ~/.mozilla, to start with clean firefox and then installed quakelive,
empty hosts.deny and "ALL : ALL : ALLOW" entry in hosts.allow to make sure noting get blocked.
No luck at all, any idea someone ?

Dont know if It would help you, seems like a different problem but I had the same symptoms, I was able to play practice but not the game itself on this thread here they helped me figure out the problem:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=105129
If that doesnt work, im thinking you could give the firefox 4 beta a shot, see if it solves your problem, also if you have virtualbox with some kind of windows on it, you can try running QL on internet explorer and see if it runs, If it does then its just the browser, if it doesnt run then could be something system related.
cheers

With microsoft you get windows and gates, with linux you get the whole house!

This was a libpng problem (drawing routines) which is already fixed by id no need anymore of preloading the v12 version.
I gived firefox 4 beta a try but the quakelive plugin won't install (not compatible with version 4).
I asked a friend to join a empty server and watch the console, and he see me connecting "user connecting..."and then after a while "user timeout..."
Gone try some more today

Now at least es know its some kind of networking problem. if you don't have it yet, install wireshark, its a network sniffer so if there is any kind of problem the offending package will most likely appear, my guess at this moment is some kind of firewall issue. so go ahead install wireshark along with its GUI (wireshark-gtk I think its the name).
after you install open it and start capturing packets then go ahead and try to connect to quake live, when it gives you the error stop the capture.
the packets captured will most likely be A LOT, so save the file and upload it to some file service (mediafire, Megaupload, etc) and place the link here to take a look at it.
cheers
