Hello,
I'm trying to install arch with a netinstall on my laptop. It seems I don't have any network.
I'm connecting with an ethernet cable behind a nat.
When trying to setup the network I choose interface eth0. If I try to setup DHCP, it fails. If I try to setup manually (I left the default values) I have no error message but it fails when trying to refresh the package list.
The error message on tty7 is
# for dhcp configuration
dhcpd : dhcpd not running
dhcpd : version 5.2.2 starting
dhcpd : eth0 : waiting for carrier
dhcpd : timedout
# ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1E:68:09:19:6C
inet addr:192.168.0.2 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
up broadcast multicast mtu:1500 metric:1
... (other values all to 0)
A ping on google failed.
Thank you

Be sure DHCP is provided in your network. If you want to configure network manually, use the correct settings for your network as the defaults may not match.

If you don't get any IP address from an DHCP server, you'll have to know the IP addressing scheme used in the network instead of just providing the default values. Those will only work for the very few people who have a network set up exactly like that.

Thanks, the problem was simply that the network was actually not working at that time, now it's fixed
(and indeed the default values were not good)
