Sony Vaio TZ webcam issue

Hello! Am i posting at in the correct forum ?

Im having a little trouble with my integrated camera.. Im using a vaio TZ31MN . Camera r5u87x-hg loads successfully but does not show in "lspci" . Tried using Mplayer like the wiki says to take a snapshot and getting the following:

Loader: $ su loader
r5u87x firmware loader v0.2

Searching for device...
Found camera: 05ca:1830
Camera reports positive microcode state.
Camera reports microcode version 0x0100.
Not doing anything - camera already setup.

Successfully uploaded firmware to device 05ca:1830!

Any idea please? Anyone have the same "problem"?

Other than that Archlinux is very compatible with this laptop and can't complain!

Re: Sony Vaio TZ webcam issue

Review the output of your mplayer command carefully. Read each line.

v4l2: unable to open '/dev/video0': No such file or directory

Review the readme contained with the source. It indicates that this only loads the firmware and that it is dependant on the uvcvideo module for creating the device (/dev/video0).
Run this with privelages to create the video device:

rmmod uvcvideo && modprobe uvcvideo

Add a call to the firmware loader before module loading if you want it to be configured at boot time. Optionally make a bash script that executes both commands at your xdm login.
