harddisk utilization upon pacman -Syu

I just moved my /var directory from my SSD to a rotating disk, now every package update takes longer of course, you can hear the disk spinning a long time.

My question is what folder(s) are being searched in case of package upgrade(s)?

I already moved the /var/cache/pacman folder back to the SSD to no avail, the rotating disk still need lots of time.

This only happens upon the first sync on my system.  I believe pacman is scanning the syncdb.  Thought I read somewhere that this will be fixed in 3.5

It is reading that databases in /var/lib/pacman.   This will be greatly reduced with pacman-3.5 (due next week)

And it will eradicate HIV, solve global hunger and poverty, unite the world, and bring the Age of the Arch. All hail the mighty pacman-3.5!

Perhaps I should add a 'long-awaited' there smile
