Hi,
After a full system upgrade today my system stops after loading the modules defined in rc.conf and won't start X11.
My inittab line: x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm -nodaemon
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I only able to login with recovery mode. I attached some log files or part of them. Please help me resolve this problem. Thanks.

"Taint" means nothing but the fact that the driver you use is not free.
As for this line:
[ 625.012] (WW) AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or 'vmmouse' will be disabled.-- try putting the following in your xorg.conf and see what happens.
Section "ServerLayout"
Option "AllowEmptyInput" "false"

Thanks for your reply.
I tried what you suggested and also tried to boot without xorg.conf. Nothing.
Also, I changed inittab to boot into console instead of X11 and left only 3 daemons in rc.conf (syslog-ng, hal dbus) but it's still the same no more moves after loading daemons. And all daemons are marked done. I don't understand it.
I need my PC so I have to my backup but this issue is still need to be solved, so advices are appreciated.

Would you mind posting the output of dmesg?
BTW, what happens if you try to start X with startx? What output can you read?

Yep, probably that was the problem. There's still a little glitch at the end, but the keyboard seems running and so does your mouse. Just compare those two logs and see the difference. All in all, I'm happy you've defeated the beast. ![]()

Unfortunately I haven't. If I run a system upgrade again, I'll be in the same situation and I still don't know how to fix this issue. ![]()

Getting back to your pacman log... You may consider not installing / upgrading
[2011-03-14 16:34] upgraded xf86-input-keyboard (1.4.0-3 -> 1.6.0-1)
[2011-03-14 16:34] upgraded xf86-input-mouse (1.6.0-1 -> 1.7.0-1)In many cases evdev, providing a generic input driver, should do the job. I just double checked my machines in case I was writing nonsense, but the only ones I have are xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-synaptics, and I have no problem using external keyboards and mice with full functionality. The double driver in your case might have been the reason of confusion for your system which in the end unloaded evdev and left you with no input driver at all.

Thanks for you help, bohoomil.
I removed xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse packages (xorg.conf, too). I rebooted and my system didn't failed so I did a full system upgrade again. This time I was able to reboot without any problem. So the mentioned 2 packages were unnecessary since evdev handles the input devices as you told.
I'll modify the topic's title since it wasn't a xorg-server issue.

I'm very happy to hear that. However, I'm watching closely the xorg updates: there have been many reports of issues afterwards, so whatever happens keep in your cache an older copy of working xorg and your OS backup as well... Just in case... ![]()
Good luck!
