Don't dare to compare bash with C. Bash has one of the most sucky syntax ever and is really a crappy script language. Fine for small not too complex things, but that's all. I never said it was better. C has got it's advantages over bash, I realize that. However, for my practical purposes (small programs),  bash is much more sensible and productive. I've been able to do about 3 times more with bash than C in the same amount of time learned for each, that's why I stick with it and that's why I made the comment.

well of course, if we're going to get into the programming language discussions, we have to put a plug in for Python... which beats bash and Perl on their own territory and gives C a run for its money... and we have to talk about Java and Groovy, because uh.... well, one of us uses both of them.
