LPRng and LPRngTool

The files of CUPS are too big for Live CD, so I have changed to LPRng. To have a list of pre-configured printer drivers, I downloaded LPRngTool from LPRng's web site. KDE's printing manager does similar configure (doesn't have drivers but can use the LPRng).

Test print works. Doesn't print the content of document in KWord or KEdit ... only prints type of font, boundingbox, name of apps., and name of file (in horizontal step format), similar what test print does.

Re: LPRng and LPRngTool

I download all lprng based packages but cannot get to run. I read the lprng document seeing the complexity... I am going for Cups smile.
I increased the LiveCD's miniroot with 1.4MB and works fine. Cups+ghostscript+gimp-print allows users to configure a large variety of printers... user friendly.

Re: LPRng and LPRngTool

feh. fought with cups for days but it did not want to accept any requests i sent it. once the daemon for lprng was made it took minutes to get my printer working and another hour to figure out that a default printcaps error was causing some problems.

lprng may not be "user friendly" but it does not rely on a spotty remote interface to get working.

I am assuming the problem is with ghostscript-lprng-7.07.1-1 package same as the standard ghostscript:

Does AL still have version 7.05 for ghostscript-lprng? Standard GS 7.05 works fine.

Re: LPRng and LPRngTool

actually i am not sure if it is the ghostscript package.

i use ghostscript-lprng and ever since i upgraded it on ...friday was it?...i have had no printing issues at all. i printed a page from firebird right after i built the package before i up loaded it. last night i printed out about a hundred or more pages of the php manual.

i will take a look at it but i have had zero issues with ghostscript-lprng lately (cannot say the same for some of the 7.05/6 releases)
