[SOLVED]GRUB menu does not show up

When I boot from HDD I get the grub command line.
The menu does not show up. Any ideas?
I think it might be a configuration problem.

If it's a configuration, fix it. As for how, try reading the wiki at please.

Re: [SOLVED]GRUB menu does not show up

I managed to boot from the grub console.
However now I encountered a problem: /sbin/init does not exist
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

Re: [SOLVED]GRUB menu does not show up

Can you please be more specific. How did you boot up? are you sure you got it right? And when the error message appear. When you login or you can not login at all?

Re: [SOLVED]GRUB menu does not show up

sorry.

My partition scheme is as following:

primary sda1: windows xp
extended sda2: Arch Linux
 logical sda5: /boot
 logical sda6: /
 logical sda7: swap
 logical sda8: /home

In the grub console i typed this to boot:

root (hd0,4)
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda5 ro
initrd /kernel26.img

Then I encountered the following errors and could not log in:

/sbin/init does not exist
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off

Re: [SOLVED]GRUB menu does not show up

Try changing /dev/sda5 to /dev/sda6
When you can boot into your system, remember to create a menu.lst properly.
