So i've found this script http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/50771.
How do i install it? When i press the install button, opera just shows me the source code of the file.
I'd really like to use mplayer-plugin instead of flash.

right click on the install button and save the link to your computer, it should be 50771.user.js
then make a folder in your home folder called "opera scripts" or something similar, it doesn't matter
now go to tools, preferences, advanced, then on the left choose content, then press javascript options and on the bottom there should be "user javascript files", so press choose and choose the folder you created.
i've never tried this by the way, i got it off of here http://my.opera.com/Contrid/blog/2007/0 … y-in-opera

it seems that mplayer-plugin is now gecko-mediaplayer,so i installed that, did everything the above person said, load up youtube I see the plugin has loaded but it doesnt load the video. Just sits there with a blank window and the video controls at the bottom. Any ideas?

if you can find the plugin itself in a firefox directory, or in a browser that it's installed in, you could transfer it over to the opera plugins directory, but that's just an idea, since it seems that the plugin isn't loaded into opera

My opera is loading plugins from operas and firefox's plugin folders,so that's not the problem.

You should have clicked on the github link:

At the time of writing this the script is broken, sorry, its been broken for a while actually and I dont have time to hack on it anymore (same old story - finished college, got a fulltime job) so I am hoping by putting it on hithub you other hackers can apply your ideas and have at it.
The problem is that youtube quite often changes something in the embedding of videos and that breaks many of these scripts.
But there are many similar userscripts on that website and maybe someone here can give you a tip for one that gets updated quickly after such a youtube change.

Have you tried just setting Youtube to use HTML5 instead of Flash?
http://www.youtube.com/html5
Click "Join the HTML5 Trial" at the bottom of the page, and youtube should automatically use HTML5 rather than Flash for your videos.
No need for any other scripts.
Only the best is good enough.
