Using kernel26 2.6.38 from testing, my screen goes blank during boot when it gets to setting the video mode with KMS. If I hit control-c, then there is some disk activity for a little while, so apparently the system isn't completely frozen. My card is an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3650. I can boot fine with radeon.modeset=0, but then I lose the power saving features that KMS enables. Everything is fine again if I downgrade to 2.6.37. It's not a problem specific to Arch; it happens in Debian also. So it's definitely something about the 2.6.38 kernel. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

which ATI driver are you using?

Check if its been reported upstream - if not, do it yourself.
Include your video card details - radeon and 2.6.38 are working fine for me here, with XPRESS 200M (R300).

@t1nk3r3r: The open source driver ("radeon"). fglrx does not support KMS.
@tomk: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35502. This is an r600 card, so I doubt the same problem would affect an r300.
