Dolphin indefinitely loading folders

This issue appeared with last update (KDE 4.6.1-2). I keep a Dolphin window in my desktop with several tabs open, now when I log in all but one are blank and the message "Loading folder" is displayed at the bottom (I'm traslating so this may be not the exact words in English). Problem is that no matter how long you wait (I've keep it like that for several hours) the file list remains empty. If you browse the filesystem tree the folder contents will be displayed, but if you just leave it untouched the window remains blank.

Also, a minor niusance: my computer has several mount points with different filesystems, now the path displayed at the top bar reads as "XXGiB hard disk" instead of "/mnt/wathever". I prefer the Unix style where you give preference to the logical layer despite the fisical one, any chances to have it back? (One can't avoid to fear if the next step in KDE will be to assign hard disks letters from the alphabet starting from C).

TIA.

For second problem, if I understood you correctly, check this option:

As for first problem, do you have gamin installed?

Thank you, changed that and now the logical path is displayed.

No, is it advisable? Never had it before and Dolphin didn't have the "Loading folder" issue.

Note that this only happens with the Dolphin window I keep open between sessions (so it will be there with the common places I use when I log in). New Dolphin instances (invoked from the K menu) will display directory contents just as expected.

Re: Dolphin indefinitely loading folders

Well, previously there was fam, which was started by either hal or kde session, not quite sure.
Since kde doesn't use hal anymore, i think it might the problem, as you probablly have no file alteration monitor, either fam or gamin.

Anyway, it's a very easy thing to try if gamin is the problem, as it (basically) has no extra deps.

Quote fom wiki:

Gamin, an extension of the file alteration monitor (fam) project, is more actively developed than fam, and will be useful for reflecting real-time changes in the filesystem.

Re: Dolphin indefinitely loading folders

Thanks for your reply. I installed gamin but the problem persists.

We'll see if next KDE update fixes the issue. For the time being I'll just press F5, I guess.
