Arch not compatible with Cairo Dock

As you can see in this topic: http://www.glx-dock.org/bg_topic.php?t= … mess_65929
it turns out using menu system in Cairo Dock on Arch is not possible due to Arch sporting newest Python 3 rather than 2.

Is there any workaround for it?

I do need this menu (be it Cardapio, Lancelot or Gnomenu) because (it's just one of the reasons) I have no other way of accessing logout/restart/shutdown/hibernate menu). I am using xfce and in right click menu there is no such option.
This is the only thing still keeping me on Windows.

Re: Arch not compatible with Cairo Dock

This is the typical bs/fud/similar. It is possible to modify cairo-dock to link correctly against python2, as with all other open source apps. And if cairo-dock is using hardcoded paths to python, then its really a issue that upstream should fix. You can never rely on "python" being any spesific version of python, it might not even be cPython at all. See http://allanmcrae.com/2010/10/big-pytho … rch-linux/ and similar.

You should not be bound to an app for this kind of basic functionality. The only thing you should do is create an app launcher and use the commands on this page ('The Modern Way'):
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … o_Shutdown
You can easily set a descriptive icon to that app launcher and you're set to go.

/EDIT: there are also apps in AUR that create a menu to click on

Re: Arch not compatible with Cairo Dock

In xfce you should get the shutdown buttons without having to do anything if you have consolekit running.

Is there any way I could add these to right-click XFCE menu?

Re: Arch not compatible with Cairo Dock

Surely if they've hardcoded it, then it's kinda their problem..... If they haven't, easy fix.
