Laptop Xinerama

I'm having some problems running xinerama on my laptop.  I have my xorg.conf configured to the point whereas I think it should work, but its not.  When I startx, I have two identical screens.  I work on and off of a docking station and it'd be really handy to have xinerama up and going.  Here's my xorg.conf  Is there something wrong with this?

Re: Laptop Xinerama

never messed with xinerama myself.... maybe there's another way to do it (multihead?)

xinerama is for extending a screen across multiple monitors... multihead configuration is for having different screens on each monitor

Re: Laptop Xinerama

Well, I was reading about other people's experiences online and what it sounds like is that my config as "maybe" correct.  I also thought that perhaps I was using a wm that didn't support xinerama, but fluxbx-svn is compiled with xinerama flags.  Hmmmm...

I have a Gateway m405 laptop.  It has an intel integrated graphics card.  Here's the output of lshwd.

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corp.|852GM/852GME/855GM/855GME Chipset Graphics Controller (i810)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corp.|852GM/852GME/855GM/855GME Chipset Graphics Controller (i810)

Re: Laptop Xinerama

I am not sure about your exact configuration, but here is my laptop configuration with mergedfb (xinerama with direct rendering, it is trivial to
switch it back to xinerama). If you could post a copy of your xorg log, that would make it easier to debug. I've spent countless hours getting all of my setup fixed.
I think one of your problems might be that the busid is commented out, but until i see the logs i can't help much more.

edit: the layout with mergedfb is called 'mfb' and sorry about the messiness

Re: Laptop Xinerama

ouch....

I have that same graphics card medicated and i have yet to see anyone successfully get multiple screens working on it.

you could try the driver on the intel website, it's reported to have better success, but afaik its a real nasty thing to install.

Re: Laptop Xinerama

I don't have time at the moment, but I downloaded the intel driver and might give it a try later.  The install looks slightly coarse..
