Laptop doesn't see the install usb

Heyhey,

I've been attempting for several hours now without success to get the install process for Arch going on a HP Compaq laptop with Vista on it; basically the system never loads the USB and either hangs or just ignores it and proceeds to boot Vista anyway. The hardware should support usb booting, I used both dd and unetbootin to try booting GpartedLive and Ubuntu10.10 to test the responses and none of them work, even though they do work on the computer I'm using right now so it should definitely be something wrong with the laptop. It is a Compaq  6530b with Windows Vista Enterprise on it. It has a HP graphical BIOS system in it where I can't find anything wrong.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a solution? I would be fine with managing to wipe the 'top and then installing, I don't want to setup a dual boot.

Re: Laptop doesn't see the install usb

Did you change the hard disk priority order?
For some reason, I had to enter a special hard disk boot priority menu and move my USB drive at the top to actually boot it.

Implode.
