Eeepc 1015pem and webcam problem

Hi guys...In my netbook the webcam isn't recognized...Or, well, it doesn't work...

I've already tried all that i can try but no results...The uvcvideo driver doesn't load during the boot, and this suggest me that arch doesn't see the webcam....

I post some output:

diego@eeepc ~>lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

After the boot, if i modprobe uvcvideo i get:

diego@eeepc ~>dmesg | tail
[...]
Linux video capture interface: v2.00
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo
USB Video Class driver (v1.0.0)

if i modprobe -r uvcvideo:

diego@eeepc ~>dmesg | tail
[...]
usbcore: deregistering interface driver uvcvideo

So, there is something! But there isn't any /dev/video* device....What can i try?

p.s. in the BIOS all devices are enabled, except bluetooth...

Re: Eeepc 1015pem and webcam problem

Are you a member of the "video" group? Do you get any output from dmesg ("dmesg | grep -i video") before even trying a modprobe? If not, and the USB system is not recognizing it have you tried a Ubuntu Live CD to see if it sees the webcam. If not for the third time then I suspect a hardware fault or you actually do have it turned off in BIOS.

This is the output...Mmmh the problem is that windows has never booted in this eeepc...And there is no recovery cd to check if the webcam is regognized by windows...

i've tried some weeks ago with a ubuntu 11.04 live cd (2.6.38) but no camera found...Today i've tried the gnome 3 live cd (2.6.37) and same thing...

Re: Eeepc 1015pem and webcam problem

Go back and try the Ubuntu Live CD and try dmesg with Ubuntu and see if you get any webcam recognized. If not then it seems to me you have faulty hardware. And have you double-checked it is not somehow disabled in BIOS?
