Same as the -ARCH config, so I tend to agree with bluepumpkin.

I get some feedback from people who try to build kernel26-pf with wrapper scripts (as the esteemed yaourt and clyde) and occasionally fail. The PKGBUILD is quite complicated, which may be the reason, so if your needs are not covered by the prebuilt packages I upload at my repo, please use 'makepkg' to build your own versions.

Thank you for the repo. I finally got this working

I've received reports of kernel panics with udev-165 (which affect all unpatched 2.6.37 kernels). I've updated the PKGBUILD to include the libata-alignment.patch and I'm updating the prebuilt packages in the pfkernel repo.
If you're not affected by the bug, you don't need to upgrade.

Since [pfkernel] is in your conf, it's as easy as
$ sudo rm -f /var/cache/pacman/pkg/kernel26-pf*
$ pacman -Sl pfkernel | grep kernel26 # see available optimizations
$ sudo pacman -S kernel26-pf-cpu # (or just kernel26-pf if you're not into optimizing)

hey nous,
I wanted an optimized kernel, but couldn't find the 'kernel26-pf-core2' package.
All I get is this:

I have assumed (incorrectly, obviously) that core2 owners run 64bit kernels... I can build a 32bit core2 package, but it's gonna take several hours on my P3 buildbox. If you can't wait:
1) since your core2 cpu is a lot faster, you can build it yourself (with makepkg or a wrapper like yaourt or clyde). You'll be asked whether to run 'make menuconfig' before the final make were you select "Processor type and features ---> Processor family ---> Core 2/newer Xeon", save the new config and wait a couple of hours for the compiling to finish.
2) Use the atom package, since that cpu is closest to core2 (supports up to ssse3; anybody, correct me here if wrong)
Either way, I've put the old P3 to work, and the 32bit core2 package will be added to the i686 repo tomorrow.
[EDIT]
Don't anyone expect any vast speed improvements with the optimized kernels over the generic one. At best they're marginal and probably barely measurable and hardly perceived, especially with Arch where everything in the 32bit repos is i686 optimized. The real gain comes from natively optimizing applications that can benefit from extended instruction sets. Please, read this post with a quick benchmark I ran several years ago.

@nous - I updated by build script for kernel26-ck to build all the -ck package families (kernel26, nvidia, and lirc). Check it out: https://github.com/graysky2/repo-ck

@nous: Could you upload headers package to your repo? I need it to compile akari (tomoyo). Thanks

The headers are included in every kernel26-pf flavour, there's no need for extra packages. I rewrote the akari PKGBUILD from the AUR and created akari-pf for you, but I really don't have the time to maintain it. So, once you test it and give me your feedback, I'll orphan it and you may adopt it.

hi i have a little problem:
with nvidia-pf i don't see my tty because i have a blank, black screen
instead with -ARCH and nvidia packages i don't have this problem.

I have an AMD Athlon II X2 with an nVidia 9800GT (similar to yours) and it works fine. Do you use a precompiled package from my repo? Is so, please try to compile one from the AUR. Alternatively, use the excellent nvidia-beta-all which builds the driver for all your installed kernels.

I have tried to get kernel26-pf + nvidia-pf to work, from the pfkernel repo (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11734958/$arch). So I installed kernel26-pf, removed nvidia, installed nvidia-pf (which upgrades nvidia-utils to nvidia-utils-beta).
I reboot, and get an error message from X that says that something is wrong with the nvidia driver, look at kernel messages for more info, where I find:
NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 270.18, but this kernel module has the version 260.19.36. Please make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components have the same version.
All the "-pf" stuff is in 270.18, the old stuff, which I uninstalled, is 260.19.36. What am I doing wrong here?

You're not doing anything wrong, the prebuilt nvidia-pf has wrong dependencies (it shouldn't pull nvidia-utils-beta in the first place). I have probably forgotten to build nvidia-pf packages recently, which I'm doing right now and uploading to the repo.

People that use the unofficial pfkernel repository and prefer the optimized versions of kernel26-pf, please state your CPU. This mainly concerns the i686 architecture which has the most processors to select from. Also, please let me know if you run Arch32 on 64bit-capable systems (I already got a request for 32bit Core2 packages).
I only have a P3/1GHz available for the building task and it takes several hours to compile each one of the six packages I currently provide, so your feedback is much appreciated.

Edit:
Whoa, Today I Learn that my Atom 230 is a x64 processor. I thought that it is a x86 and i have 2 years running Archlinux i686 not x64 :S .

The kernel development package may be called kernel-devel, kernel-smp-devel,

difficulties in installing the kernel/driver development environment.
For your Linux distribution the right kernel source package

Quick fix:
cd /lib/modules/2.6.38-pf ; sudo rm -f build ; sudo ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.6.38-pf build
The first 2.6.38-pf1 PKGBUILD didn't create the right symlink; later ones and -pf2 are fixed. Atom-pf2 kernels are already in [pfkernel] for your convenience.
