Is there anyone who play hl's games using vsync ?
I find that there is a problem, framerate is often above 60 FPS

I've definitely experienced entire kwin crashes and/or lockups with a grey screen after attempting to leave full screen with esc key instead of clicking on the GUI control. To fix this I can press ctrl+alt+F{1-6}, then back to X using ctrl+alt+F7.
The funny thing is th the more complicated flash video interfaces (such as huludesktop) work nearly perfect, yet the most common ones (like youtube) experience this.
If you need some input and/or another source for the bug tracker let me know and I'll submit some info.
+1 on the flash bug.
PS: You only have to press Alt+F7

Hello people.
I have a little pacman updating problem with catalyst-utils. Here's the according output:
[root@xps1645 /]# pacman -Syu
:: Synchronizing package databases...
multilib is up to date
catalyst is up to date
testing is up to date
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community-testing is up to date
community is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: catalyst-utils: requires xorg-server<1.10.0
So, it seems like updating xorg-server gives problems as catalyst-utils needs it to be <1.10.0. So, even though I heard it's bad practice to do so, I thought I'd try to update and ignore xorg-server. here's the result:
[root@xps1645 /]# pacman -Syu --ignore xorg-server
:: Synchronizing package databases...
multilib is up to date
catalyst is up to date
testing is up to date
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community-testing is up to date
community is up to date
:: Starting full system upgrade...
warning: xorg-server: ignoring package upgrade (1.9.4.901-1 => 1.10.0-1)

looking for inter-conflicts...
:: xf86-input-evdev and xorg-server are in conflict (xorg-server<1.10.0). Remove xorg-server? [y/N] n
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: xf86-input-evdev and xorg-server are in conflict (xorg-server<1.10.0)
I clearly don't want to uninstall xorg-server.
So, what can I do? Couldn't find something about it on the last 2 or 3 pages of this thread, which surprised me... so probably something's wrong with my system...? Even though, on #archlinux, somebody said that probably catalyst-utils is out-of-date. Will some simple waiting for catalyst-utils help?
Thanks for your time! (And thanks to the people that work so dedicatedly on supporting ATI users.

@ichbinder: Vi0l0 prepared an xorg 1.9 repository to be used with current catalyst. Add this:
[xorg19]
Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/xorg19/$arch
on top of your repositories list in pacman.conf, then pacman -Syy and pacman -Suu.

@DarksideEE7 & @devadittya:
is youtube working good for you right now?
Cuz it's fine here...I just dunno how this happened - in recent pacman's updates i can't see anything that could be related, also im not using [testing]... Strange.
Strangely yes :)
I do an upgrade very often, so I cannot recall what it is. However, it is working perfectly at the moment.
P.S. I do remember updating chromium.

Hey guys, new Arch user, some-time Ubuntu user, AMD/ATi owner.
I was wondering if the catalyst package was any good?
I have a Radeon HD 5770 and a Phenom II X4 20 @ 3.25Ghz and I have the intention of playing Starcraft 2 on this beast. I've got a 1920x1080p monitor that connects via DVI, just so there's no confusion.
I currently have the xf86-video-ati-git installed but, is that the best one? Are there any extra drivers for my GPU, CPU or MoBo that I should know about? Thanks in advance!

Catalyst performances are currently unmatched by the open driver, so if your will is to play games you should drop xf86-video-ati and install catalyst to let your VGA run at maximum power in 3D.

Thanks! Only a minor question: do I have to remove any of the other repositories that I am using for the ATI purpose, currently? Here part of my pacman.conf:

Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

[extra]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Especially before adding the xorg19 repo? Might there be any conflicts?

ah yes, thank you snack...
i also already tested (just in case):
- no xserver 1.10 support (surprise! surprise!)
- no .38 kernel support - although patches r working perfectly
So "only" bugfixes... i believe they should release 11.3 in prima aprilis day!
AUR has been updated, repo soon (edit: also)
Edit: Good thing: i guess this full-screen bug when using "Tear-Free Desktop" went away - i cannot reproduce it atm

So there also won't be xserver 1.10 support in catalyst 11.4 : http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=n … &px=OTI2OQ
Just a same situation like a year before - we had xserver 1.7 support in ubuntu 10.4 and no support in catalyst 10.4 (it shown in 10.5)... iirc
Anyhow we need to wait about ~2 weeks - then ati should bring package for ubuntu 11.4 which is using xserver 1.10. catalyst-test is already waiting for repacking it...

Yep, i read about 8.84 on ubuntu forums earlier, and already got working catalyst-test - im writing this post from xserver 1.10.
But it doesn't seem to work as good as 11.3 - mplayer's vaapi isn't working at all, and sometimes i can see artifacts - especially when clicking RMB in some Dolphin's window - although they are not so bad, and overall rendering windows/menus is faster.
Edit: stupid me, just saw that mplayer-vaapi is in [community-testing] so i will have to switch to [testing] completely <sigh>
Edit2: after switch nothing changed. I guess this could be related with xvba-video which maybe should be rebuild (if so we will have to wait for gbeauchesne), dunno, i will try to rebuild other packages.
Edit3: rebuiliding mplayer-vaapi and libva gives nothing, so now im almost sure it is xvba-video
I will now look at it once again, maybe will try to fix it.
But anyhow - soon this new catalyst-test will hit AUR and repo.

ok, i have updated catalyst-test in AUR : http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34773
i will put it into [catalyst] repo soon
As for switchable graphics support you still need some scripts to perform it - i don't have hardware to test it so i cannot prepare it in right way.
If you need some help look at this git
If someone will figure it out and write some scripts (it shouldn't be hard) please publish it...
Funny thing is that ati has just copied 2 libs several time in their package to make such support... so the size of package is larger than it could be - after all they could just made some symlinks, i did it in catalyst-test:
install -m755 extensions/libglx.so "${pkgdir}/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/fglrx/fglrx-libglx.so" || return 1

I noticed that kde artifacts occurs only when Tear-Free Desktop is enabled... (in catalyst-test)
@Gillian00:
look at the catalyst-test AUR's page
the answer is yes.
plus before catalyst-test i prepared patch used in catalyst-generator with which also 2.6.39 rc1 kernel is working fine.
This patch works also in catalyst-test.
Side note: in 2.6.39 kernel BKL (Big Kernel Lock) was removed completely, and thats why 2.6.39_bkl.patch appear (used in combination with no_bkl.patch)

i'am using kernel26-pf (2.6.38-pf2) and when version 11.2 worked ok, now on 11.3 i get :
Fatal error on inserting (/lib/modules/2.6.38-pf/video/fglrx.ko) no such device
I have to boot with option acpi=off , because i have ati mobility radeon 3650 and it have problems to work with active acpi.
As far as i understand on 2.6.28 this version of driver don't load with acpi=off can anyone confirm it, or have any workaournd ?
I tested new catalyst-test and i got the same problem...
