Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Hi i tried the precompiled kernel from your repo. Sadly i doesn't detect my pata hdd (where arch runs from). I don't know how this is even possible, because the config should be the same as the default arch kernel (wich runs fine).

Any Ideas?

I have a GA-P35-DS3R Mainboard.

If you compile it yourself from the AUR, does it detect your pata drive?  The repo kernels use the same config files as the AUR does with the BFS enabled.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Hey graysky, i'm following the steps of your pkgbuild but manually, cause i'm doing some tests over a new installation.
linux 2.6.37.3, patch-2.6.37-ck2 and patch-2.6.37-ck2
I patch the ck2 patch to fix it. I patch the sources with the fixed ck2 patch. OK
then i try to patch the sources with the patch from ARCH:

bary /tmp/linux-2.6.37.3 $ cat arch.txt | grep -i fail
Hunk #2 FAILED at 2822.
1 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file drivers/message/fusion/mptctl.c.rej

Hunk #3 FAILED at 652.
2 out of 3 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file drivers/net/virtio_net.c.rej
Hunk #3 FAILED at 308.

3 out of 5 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file fs/inode.c.rej
Hunk #1 FAILED at 1.
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file Makefile.rej

and lots of lines skipping patch.

What am i missing?

@viper - please start a new thread or post to the AUR page for kernel26-ck since this one is about repo-specific stuff.

No i doesn't work to. But i thought that BFS instead of CFS was the only diffrence to the Arch Stock Kernel.

It is... not sure why your PATA drive isn't getting detected.  Post the output of "mkinitcpio -p kernel26-ck" and of "cat /etc/mkinitcpio.conf"

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Might be awhile until 2.26.38-ck gets released due to no CK1 patchset for the .38 three-point release.  Details:  http://ck-hack.blogspot.com

2.6.38 came out faster than I was expecting, and I've made no effort as of yet to port BFS or -ck to it. It looked like there were still bug reports on the last -rc on the linux kernel mailing list so I wasn't expecting the "stable" release to come out yet. Furthermore, I've been working very hard on the next major release of lrzip which is a massive rewrite so that has completely occupied my time and I am not done with it yet. So there will likely be quite some delay before I can release an official BFS/CK for 2.6.38. I also would like to watch what fallout, if any, there is from the autogrouping code and decide what I should do with respect to that feature. I'm sure some unofficial BFS ports will be available soon enough but obviously I won't be able to say with any confidence whether they can be trusted or not.

EDIT: My bad... updated the repo.  Please try it now.

sudo pacman -Rs nvidia-ck-core2 && sudo pacman -Syy && pacman -S nvidia-ck-core2

It should say the package is corrupt, redownload it and all should be well.

Must I reinstall lirc-ck and nvidia-ck on every kernel26-ck update?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Hey, I'm an i7 user here, I've been using the generic package and tweaking it because I didn't realize you had a separate core2 package. I'd be more than happy to help compile/test if you'd like.
Also, would you mind if I used your builds as a base for a specific package I'd like to put in the AUR? I'm working on building a kernel for the Lenovo Ideapads like mine, and I've had nothing but trouble-free builds from your scripts.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@student - as long as it's a three point release, i.e. 2.6.38.x (where x is the only thing that changed), you should NOT need to rebuild either of those with four point releases.  I don't rebuild nvidia-ck for the repo... are you needing to do it?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@graysky, I have a problem with kernel26-ck-p4 2.6.38.3-1 from your repo. Namely, my two d-link wifi sticks and one pentagram wifi stick (all rt73usb) can find any wireless network. I rebooted into the stock kernel26 2.6.38.3-1 and everything works fine, all wifi networks around was listed. Rebooted again into kernel26-ck-p4 and got the same sh&t. Bad compiled rt73 modules?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Not sure what to say, knedlyk... what happens if you build kernel26-ck from the AUR?  Same problem?

Also, building 2.6.38.4-1 series for the repo now...

Dunno, I don't have enough time to wait until compiling from AUR finishes, that's why I use your repository instead of compiling myself...

Not sure what to conclude.  If you can't build the package from the AUR and report back, I can't know if it's something I'm doing or if it's something the patchset is doing.

I built the kernel package from AUR (with P4 option in config and ), and wifi works perfectly fine with rt73usb module.
I can conclude that something wrong is in your machine setup or packages (old gcc libs, etc and etc and etc).
It is not a big deal for me to compile the kernel from AUR, it only takes some time to compile (~2 hours) on my box.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

@knedlyk - hmmm.... good feedback.

1) Please post the output of:

$ cat /etc/makepkg.conf | grep FLAG

And

$ gcc -c -Q -march=native --help=target

2)  If you use the generic i686 package from the repo, does your wireless work?
