Before I start this thread I would like to mention that yes I had searched the forums and the other solution did not work for me, well they did but then a recent VLC update seems to have broken them.
I have a pulse-audio setup with which everything else works and I am running KDE with a gstreamer phonon backend. I've tried reinstalling VLC and reseting the settings to no avail.
I can provide more detail if requested. Please hurry! I can't last much longer without a good media player.
Sorry about the two threads. 1st time I tried to post it I got a 503 so I posted again

Glad there's someone who would say sorry when X-posting. I hate it when people intentionally X-posting and won't say sorry or even admit that they're wrong.
And I would recommend you using mplayer, at least while your issue remains true. I don't have any experience with VLC on linux though, I use VLC for windows but mplayer for linux.

Good idea. I tried KMplayer which is basically mplayer in a KDE wrapper but whenever I paused and then when I clicked play it would start the video from the beginning.

, Are you by any chances seeing a "Player mplayer Not Running" at the bottom?
If so, you should click pause again (after paused), instead of click play.

I didn't notice. I'm on my Cr-48 at the moment so I can't check. Also should I try and get this thread moved to the multimedia section?

If you wish so.
