Re: Deleting files in thunar isnt actually removing them

just tried using shift+delete and that worked. BUT i still have about 5 gigs of files that i deleted that are still somewhere on my drive. if someone can tell me where they are sent do when i "delete" them, then i can get rid of them that way.

Cheers.

Files that are deleted without pressing Shift+Delete end up in $HOME/.local/share/Trash/files . You should be able to empty out that folder normally.

Re: Deleting files in thunar isnt actually removing them

You first open up your home folder in Thunar (by clicking the Home entry in the sidebar, the variable $HOME is just a representation of your user's home, when I typed that out). If you have the crumb navigation enabled (where there isn't a textbox entry for the location), you'll need to press Ctrl+H to take a look at the hidden folders in your home folder. You should see a folder named ".local". Open that folder and you should see a folder called share. After opening the share folder inside .local, you should see a folder labeled Trash. Open that folder and you should see a folder named files.

If you don't have the crumbs enabled, simply type this into the skinny textbox that shows your location:

~/.local/share/Trash/

Either way, you'll see the folder I mentioned before.

I'm not sure how easy it is to find by searching on the forum/wiki, but there has been several threads about Thunar since the update to Xfce 4.8. You need to install gvfs (which was mentionned when you installed/upgraded Thunar) to get the trashcan icon.
