So yeah, I moved the PCI card in my machine and now I can't hear anything from aplay, play, vlc, or amarok. I can however hear music through mplayer.
There are no error messages that I can see.
Does anybody have any idea how to troubleshoot this? I'm assuming that something I have installed ALSA or pulseaudio is setup to remember the old location of the card or something which has changed...?
Thanks a lot.
edit:
Something interesting I've noticed is that when I check the audio output preference information inside the pulseaudio configuration in Amarok it now only shows one option 'Pulseaudio Sound Server'. It used to show all of the different outputs, I think.

Okay. I fiddled with pulseaudio and I now have sound. Unfortunately it's really distorted. It sounds like the sample rate is really low or something...
This is somehow related to the number of channels I have selected -- well it is on Amarok.
...lol, so it seems that I need to go into phonon on Amarok and changing it to 7.1 audio output fixes VLC...
