ATI catalyst 11.3-1 + Xserver 1.9.4

First off, i dont think i am a noob, but still pretty unexpired so sorry if stuff don't make sense, or if i post in the fail forumsection.

I have just reinstalled Arch because my root directory was about to blow over. So i did. Unfortonatly the newest catalyst and xorg didnt work, or i am just stupid but when i installed Arch fist(a month ago i think) X and catalyst worked right away. So i think that there is a compatiblety problem with the newest versions. I really need the catalyst driver as the opensource doesn't support the newest radeon's very good in term of 3d.

So here is about what i did.

i had allready compiled(if makepkg does that) the catalyst kernel module and catalyst-utils from AUR(maybe thats the problem?) so i just installed them and then the xorg stuff.

as i run startx i get some errors:
EE failed to load "ati" "vesa" "fbdev" no drivers available.

fatal server error:
no screens found

this was allready the second try, on the one before this i installed & reinstalled the opensource and the catalyst alot, there i got him to find the catalyst, but still X didnt work.

are either X or catalyst just not compatible or did i something wrong?

here is my /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

Re: ATI catalyst 11.3-1 + Xserver 1.9.4

Hi!

Please check this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … Bxorg19.5D
Install this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … alyst-hook
Please do this as well: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … figuration (or as I did, create ones in xorg.conf.d)

That should make a trick wink

thx for for the help,  i thoug i got it to work but now i got blank screens(white with twm black with openbox) when running startx

i installed xorg-server from xorg19 repo and made an dualhead config with the aticonfig tool. in adition i made the DRI section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf as suggested on the wiki.

Re: ATI catalyst 11.3-1 + Xserver 1.9.4

Hi!

I suggest to get single-head setup first, when it works, backup xorg.conf and get dual-config to work. Also, it might be that you can get away with xradr or otherwise known as Monitors under gnomes System -> Preferences menu. It's very easy nowadays smile
Please pass nomodeset to kernel parameters as well.

Re: ATI catalyst 11.3-1 + Xserver 1.9.4

i made an singlehead config but its the same just with one screen of course.

i can't use xrandr as i need a working X for the gui i think?

i also past nomodeset to the kernel parameters. this  does it spits out when running startx:

xauth: (stdin):2: unknow command "fd99531a4dcd6d09b82c890de077f30f"

/etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc: line 1: /usr/bin/X: Success
xinit: givinig up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error

oh and i tryed modprobe fglrx and no output don't know if that has something to say.
