Hello, I am somewhat new to tiling window managers like Awesome and I have a few small things I would like some help on.
-------
The first one is a problem with a space ending up between a window and the edge of the screen.
From changing theme.lua
theme.border_width = "1"

theme.border_width="0"

It gets worse when I open more windows and works fine on Subtle.
-------
The second thing is a flash when the WM starts up before the panel and background appear, and when I open or close windows. Using xcompmgr negates some of the flashing but is still apparent when I open something for the first time, or close a window, and when Awesome starts up.
Thanks,
Flyingtree

I am so silly. I had a tab open with the answer to the first question and was about to read it after this post.

Just as a small update, the flash when Awesome starts up is caused by xcompmgr but disabling it worsens flashing caused by switching desktops and opening/closing things as I had said previously.
EDIT:
So after looking up this problem on the xcompmgr wiki, I followed these instructions and was able to stop the flash at start up.

The last thing to be solved is the flash from opening and closing windows.

I suppose the only problem I have left is with the compositor.
If anyone could give me a suggestion on how to prevent the flashing then my desktop may finally be complete.
Or if no one in the Arch forums is smart enough to solve this, then telling me to give up would be fine too.

Ask on the awesome IRC channel or mailing list what other people use. There are two other compositors (unagi, and xcb-something), one of them might get along better with awesome.
You need to install an RTFM interface.

Unagi works perfectly.
Thank you BOFH.
