I solved a huge headache and am posting a keyword filled post in case somebody else gets in the same situation:
udevd and kworkerd have been causing off and on high cpu usage after upgrades
I lost wireless connectivity and iwlagn was causing all kinds of errors in dmesg
installed kernel26-lts and still nothing. I had to install linux-firmware because there is no such thing as kernel26-lts-firmware and kernel26-firmware did not seem to be doing the job for iw5300 drivers
I will also make the note that simply doing `pacman -Sy linux26-lts` will not do the job. I had to modify /boot/grub/menu.lst to use the -lts variants of vmlinuz and kernel26
Mainly I was not aware that kernel26-lts existed, and to this date my only gripe with Arch was the fact that sometimes kernel upgrades put me in a bad situation. Now my favorite OS is... still my favorite OS?
