Is it possible?

Yes, it is possible. A quick google search turned up euclid and bluetile. There are probably others that can display such behavior as well (awesome comes to mind, since it comes with everything and the kitchen sink). Why do you want it though?

I use my own laptop at work, so everyone walking behind me can see what I'm doing: it's kinda annoying.
Anyway, thank you! I will take a look at euclid (I didn't found it googling but it was on the wiki, even if not clickable, shame on me): bluetile seems to need gnome in order to work

XMonad can do it too

You could also just use a different screen and switch back and forth, it's what I do with dwm. You can even selectively do this by placing what you want hidden on a second screen and then simply pulling all tags to the screen you are viewing. When you want to hide the item, simply switch to a tag that isn't occupied by that item (for dwm, it would be alt-0 to pull all tags onto the screen and then alt-1 to reduce the view to only those items tagged by the first screen). No clicking necessary with such a setup.
Here's an example:
alt-0, all tags pulled into screen:
Now switching to first tag only (alt-1)
All of the windows are still open, but selectively displayed depending on tagging options.

@the sad clown
I just tried dwm, impressing: I like it very much.
I forgot: before my post, I tried E17 with tiling, but no minimizing on it too.
Thank you!
