Need some help for Xorg configuration please !

Hello,

yesterday i installed Arch 0.7 on my computer and everything went fine so far.
I downloaded xorg and kde.

I started "xorgconfig" and did all the necessary steps but i wasn´t sure which graphics driver i shall use.

I have a Nvidia GeForce4ti 4200 with 64MB Ram and i use a Samsung 17`Flat screen.
When i use the nv driver, a resolution of 1024x768 and the horizontal and vertical frequencies as advised in my Samsung Handbook i have some problems with the fonts.

They seem to be very "thin" and the color is very bright.
Is someone in this forum who maybe uses this graphic card and can give me a good advice what to do ??

Thanks in advance.

Regards from Germany

Krille

Re: Need some help for Xorg configuration please !

Perhaps you should try the closed source nvidia driver. Just pacman -Sy nvidia and change your nv driver to nvidia in xorg.conf. I'm using that with a GeForceFX and 15" Samsung flat panel w/ 1024x768 resolution and it's great.

Also, check for information about DPI settings in /etc/fonts/local.conf. This can improve font rendering greatly.

Re: Need some help for Xorg configuration please !

Thanks for your advice :-)
I´ll try that when i´m back home this evening. Do i have to compile the kernel after installing the nvidia driver via pacman ??
Sorry for this stupid question, i´m an "arch-newbie".

Can you tell me how the DPI settings should look like in /etc/fonts/local.conf ??

I guess i should choose something with 78dpi, shouldn´t i ??

You won't need to recompile the kernel, pacman -S nvidia will compile a new kernel module against your current headers which you will then need to setup X.org to use smile
