theres no advertising in this post...... i swear......

Ummm wow iphitus, thats the first ion screenshot I've seen which looks good...

let me ask you this - was it a mess to setup PIDA that way... I could layout ratpoison the same way, but it's going to take a mess of split/resize commands (though I could then save the frameset and restore it when launching pida)

Re: [CLOSED - SEE MONTHLY STICKIES] Arch Desktop Screenshots

dust: terminal im running screen, with a hardstatus line of.

hardstatus alwayslastline "%c:%s||%w "

Cam: Thanks big_smile

Corky: Love the wp.

Phrakture: In ion3 you can right click a frame and select split from there, much easier than stringing off the commands in ratpoison.
Pida was a pita to setup that way, I just ran it and resized the resize thingys. You should check for updates, they're coming every few days at the moment, it's 0.1.6 right now. In ion3 I just dragged it into the frame which I had made by right clicking the frame and splitting it.

The bottom frame is by far the coolest in the 'busy' screenshot, its an overlapping frame, whereever my focus goes, that window overlaps the other one.

cmp: sure, its look_teal.lua, and its included in the tar of my ~/.ion3/ I have uploaded here.

http://iphitus.loudas.com/downloads/iphitus-ion3.tar.gz

ion3 is kinda unusual to configure at first, you just have to ask how to do one thing or another, and after you work out how to do a few things, and biind keyboard shortcuts, it becomes a breeze.

Yeah, sounds like wmii or ratpoison, except it's all done with the keyboard instead...
the bottom frame is a "always on top" window? do I understand that right?

Re: [CLOSED - SEE MONTHLY STICKIES] Arch Desktop Screenshots

the bottom frame and the top frames are overlapping here.

so if I mouse over the bottom frame, it will be raise to the top and overlap over the top frame, partially concealing it, if i then mouse over the top frame, it will move to the top, and overlap the bottom frame, partially concealing the bottom one.

ion3 doesnt have to be done with the keyboard ,you can bind things to the mouse if you so much desired, or you could even make nice friendly menus. there are some right click menus to split frames an whatnot already too.

cmp: setup a winprop, i put mine in ~/.ion3/cfg_kludges.lua

they go in the form of:

defwinprop{
     switchto = true,
     jumpto = true,
     class = "programmy class",
     instance = "programmy instance",
     role = "role of program",
     title = "title of program",
     target = "this is the target frame"
}

the idea is that you match the criteria, one OR more of title, class, role, instance, and the settings there will be set to it. you dont need to have all the criteria. so here i have target="" which tells it what frame to put it in.

the criteria of a window can be found by right clicking and clicking "window info"

to setup the scratchpad as the target frame, put it's name in there, if you arent sure, hit alt+f3 to get a lua console and type: mod_query.query_renameframe(_) hit enter to leave the existing name or enter a new one if you wish.

lol, never noticed that... what's the cmd line option for that?

(for the record, that's a program called cowsay... and it's a cow, heh)

I used to love to use "figlet <text> | cowsay"

Yes, it is an N64 emulator and it is called Mupen64. It is not in pacman but you can get a binary from its website anyway. Cheers.
