ipv4 vs ipv6

Most of the world hasn't converted to ipv6, but if you ignore the few 'converts' you can run into
trouble if you've added 'disable-ipv6=1' to your kernel line in grub's menu.lst.

I recently got strange errors/disconnects, that disappeared straight away once I'd left out the above 'disable...'.

Maybe the following is a good compromise:

Leave everything as is and only add the -4 to the wget in /etc/pacman.conf. Remember to also do that to
any new 'pacman.conf' that could have been created by a changeover to the new pacman database
format.

Re: ipv4 vs ipv6

I use 'alias net-pf-10 off', as described here - works fine.

Some details about your "strange errors/disconnects" would be useful, might get more constructive replies.

And I could be wrong, but it seems you think pacman uses wget by default. It doesn't - the XferCommand option that uses wget is commented.

Re: ipv4 vs ipv6

The 'funny' error message said: 'Server disconnect' and that was it.

Could be coincidental that it disappeared after my change.
