I have just discovered this and thought I would share it with you: https://github.com/antimatter15/player
You can try it out online. Just point it to a directory with mp3 files on your harddrive and it will parse the ID3 tags and play it right in your browser.

I haven't looked at it, and it might be interesting. But from your description I can't think of any way that would be useful...
Why play music in your browser if it's on your harddrive.

I think this is just one step closer on the way of the browser becoming the only program used on a machine (what with all the things in 'the cloud').
So this is more something that looks like cloud computing though it is of course all local... It doesn't make me switch away from MOC but we know open source is all about alternatives.
