hello all,

i recently acquired a apple remote for free, and  i was wondering if anyone knew of any usb infrared receivers that would work with this, or what kind of receivers would work with this.

thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Apple Remote Receiver

Bastien Nocera (totem guy) has the appleir patch for kernel https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/219592/ but it was never accepted because it hasn't been ported to the new IR/RC subsystem. You can see Jarod Wilson's (lirc guy) last comment in that thread about using mceusb receiver.
It looks like you can get a MCE remote/receiver combo for under $20, and use the bought remote until its possible to use the apple remote with it.

As far as I can tell, none of these have made it into the kernel, unless they have moved:
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/321592/
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/289142/

You might ask on linux-media or lirc lists/IRC to find out where that code/effort is at or other options like recording a custom keymap for ir-keytable (in the v4l-utils package).
